Specialized Lipid Disorders Clinic (Lipidology)
Lipid disorders are characterized by elevated blood lipid levels and represent a significant and critical risk factor for the development of cardiovascular and vascular diseases. These disorders may be acquired or inherited. Both types are clinically relevant, which is why early detection, accurate diagnosis, and timely treatment are essential.
Our practice is specialized in the evaluation and treatment of lipid disorders, and we are happy to advise you if you have elevated blood lipid levels.
Professor Sievers is a recognized expert in lipid metabolism and certified in Lipidology. He serves as the head of the clinical research center at Sana Klinikum Remscheid and is a Principal Investigator in major international studies focused on developing novel lipid-lowering therapies.
Together with his colleague, Dr. Esser, he emphasizes that approximately 20–25% of the population has a genetic lipid disorder, including elevated lipoprotein(a) levels, a marker often not included in routine blood tests. For this reason, they strongly recommend comprehensive lipid panel testing that includes lipoprotein(a) measurements.

If you have elevated lipid levels, it is also important to assess and manage other risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, or kidney disease. Early intervention in these areas can help prevent or significantly delay the onset of cardiovascular and vascular disease. With proper preventive care, up to 70% of these conditions can either be avoided or significantly postponed.
We also recommend a vascular health assessment using advanced ultrasound techniques to detect early signs of arterial calcification (atherosclerosis) or plaque formation. These findings often serve as key indicators for initiating preventive therapy.
As a recognized expert in gender-specific medicine, Prof. Sievers understands that men and women may respond differently to lipid-lowering treatments, particularly statins. Women are more likely to experience side effects. Therefore, it is especially important not to discontinue medication on one’s own but to consider alternative, better-tolerated therapies. In many cases, statin therapy in women should begin at very low doses, sometimes as low as half the amount typically recommended in the prescribing information.
If you have elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, or lipoprotein(a) levels and would like specialized advice, diagnostics, or a second opinion, we are here to help.
